Ice Warriors Prepare to Compete at the Silver Stick Championships!

 Bantam "AA" Ice Warriors Capture Back-to-Back Tournaments 
The Bantam "AA" Ice Warriors recently won back to back tournaments in November. The Ice Warriors started the month of November by defeating a very talented hockey team from Aurora 3-0, in the finals to win the Streetsville Fall Hockey Tournament. Aurora had defeated the Ice Warriors 2-0 in the round robin, which was the only loss suffered by the team. The Ice Warriors compiled a 4 and one record at the tournament, allowing only 6 goals against, including 2 shutouts and 19 goals for. Two weeks after winning the Streetsville tournament, the Ice Warriors were off to participate in the Mississauga North Stars Scotiabank Cup tournament. The Ice Warriors started the tournament with a 3-1 victory over the Vaughan Rangers, followed by a 4-2 win against the Orangeville Flyers.
The third game saw a hard fought battle against the Milton Winterhawks, with the Ice Warriors winning by a 3-0 score. This set the stage for a semi final match against the Barrie Colts, who were undefeated in the tournament. The Ice Warriors got off to a fast start, leading 3-1 after the first period and did not look back, pushing forward to a 7-3 victory and a chance to play against division rival and host Mississauga North Stars.
Both teams played an outstanding game. The Ice Warriors got off to a 2-0 lead, and then added a third goal. The North Stars did not give up and added a power play goal and another goal in the third period to make the game close. The final score was 3-2.
The entire Ice Warrior team played solid two way hockey during the entire tournament and ended with an undefeated record of 5-0, with 20 goals for a paltry 6 goals against, including one shutout against Milton.
Austin Nienhuis, goalie for the Ice Warriors was named the MVP of the final game.
The coaching staff and parents of the Ice Warriors would like to congratulate the players for their outstanding team play during the month of November.
This team is now undefeated in ten Silver Stick regional games, dating back to December / 2008, when they defeated Leaside Flames for the regional championship.

The Ice Warriors started this year’s tournament with a 2-0 victory over Guelph, followed by a 5-4 win over Peterborough and a 6-3 decision over Leaside, capturing the number one seed in their division. The semi final game was a tough fought battle with Stoney Creek. The game was decided in the third overtime, when Curtis Richards scored the winning goal, with assists from Danylo Znaczko and Kris Cordeiro.

The championship game saw the Ice Warriors in a rematch with Guelph, won defeated Ancaster 2-1 in their semi final game.

Eric James scored the only goal of the game for the Ice Warriors, who held off a late rally from Guelph to win their second consecutive Silver Stick regional championship. 
The Ice Warriors were led by the stellar goaltending of Theo Jung and Kyle MacDonald who made numerous highlight reel saves and earned a  1.60 team goals against average during the tournament, including two shut outs.
